RUR rankings: UD has improved in all disciplines

The University of Debrecen has been ranked as the best educational institution in Hungary in science and medicine in the most recently published thematic ranking of the Round University Ranking. Our institution has improved its position in all the disciplines covered in the independent ranking provider's latest thematic ranking.

The University of Debrecen has moved forward more than one hundred and forty places as compared to last year's result and has been ranked 132nd in the Round University Ranking (RUR) 2024 Natural Sciences World University Ranking. With this result, it is the best Hungarian institution in the field of natural sciences. The institution is also ranked number one in Hungary in the ranking of medical sciences, moving up from the 290th to the 133rd place in the Medical Sciences World University Ranking, thus becoming the best medical university in Hungary.


Our institution has also significantly improved its position and moved up more than 100 places in the fields of humanities, engineering, social sciences and life sciences. In the Technical Sciences World University Ranking, the institution has improved the most, moving up from 807th to 560th.

The University of Debrecen is ranked 200th in the Humanities World University Ranking, 346th in the Social Sciences World University Ranking and 428th in the Life Sciences World University Ranking.

Round University Ranking (RUR) 2024 thematic ranking ranks higher education institutions in 6 disciplines: humanities, life sciences, medicine, natural sciences, engineering and social sciences. Round University Ranking has been publishing its rankings since 2010. The list evaluates more than 1,000 of the world's leading universities against 20 indicators in 4 areas: teaching (40%), research (40%), financial sustainability (10%) and international diversity indicators (10%).

Besides the University of Debrecen, other Hungarian institutions of higher education included in the thematic lists of RUR are Semmelweis University, University of Pécs, University of Szeged, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Eötvös Loránd University, Corvinus University of Budapest, University of Miskolc, University of Pannonia and University of Sopron.
