- The University of Debrecen Clinical Centre for Paediatrics is one of the largest paediatric surgery centres in the country. Most of the surgeries performed here are carried out by our surgeons using minimally invasive techniques. With the acquisition of the new 3D laparoscopic tower, we would like to contribute to the further development of the specialty, so that paediatric surgeons can perform around 1300 operations a year with the best possible technique. The "For Our Children" Foundation of the Children's Hospital continuously supports the purchase of equipment for the clinic, last year we spent about HUF 50 million on the modernisation of the equipment - said Tamás Szabó, Director of the DE Clinical Centre for Paediatrics and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the "For Our Children" Foundation of the Children's Hospital.
More than half of the cost of the device, worth around HUF 42 million, was covered by the Children's Hospital Foundation "For Our Children". For this, they received substantial support from CATL and the Tranzit Group.
- At CATL, we believe that as a global company we have a responsibility to our immediate and wider environment. We are happy to support causes that create social value in Debrecen and its region beyond our business activities. One of these is the initiative of the University of Debrecen's Paediatric Clinic, which we support to help children in need of treatment to recover as soon as possible. We hope to be part of further similar initiatives in Debrecen in the future," said Noémi Sidló, Communications Manager of CATL.
The Tranzit Group has been a regular supporter of the children's clinic for more than 10 years, and this time again contributed several million forints to the purchase.
- We pay particular attention to supporting children's health institutions, including the Paediatric Clinic. Each year we regularly support the purchase of equipment for the institution. For us, as donors, it is always comforting to know that the money is going to the right place, and we see that many people are following our example, with more and more companies making charitable donations," said Miklós Szabó, owner of Tranzit-Food Ltd.
In addition to the companies' support, the clinic's foundations needed to join forces. The Foundation for Children with Leukaemia contributed 10 million forints to the investment.
- The Foundation has supported the development of the Debrecen Children's Hospital with significant amounts of money over the past three decades. Our NGO is dedicated to the support and development of leukaemia and oncology patient care. This equipment enables surgical procedures that can be performed more easily, with fewer complications and more precision, even for children with cancer. We felt it was very important to be involved in the purchase of this instrument," said Csongor Kiss, Professor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Children with Leukaemia.
The Hope for Children with Leukemia Foundation contributed 10 million HUF from the annual tax percentage of about 28 million HUF donated to them to help purchase the 3D laparoscopic tower.
- The primary goal of our foundation is to provide direct support to children with cancer and leukaemia and their families. We also consider it important to provide medical equipment to ensure quality care. The equipment that we have just purchased will significantly improve the surgical care of children," added István Szegedi, Associate Professor at the University of Szegedi and member of the Board of Trustees of the Hope for Children with Leukaemia Foundation.
Levente Szabó, a paediatric surgeon at the clinic, said the new device is indispensable for modern paediatric surgical care. Thanks to 3D imaging, procedures can be performed more easily, faster, with less bleeding and fewer complications, and the operating time and anaesthesia time can be reduced by up to 25 per cent.
The representatives of the foundations thanked all those who donated money to make the new equipment possible.
