A global market leader that relies and counts on our university

According to Mr. Hu Tao, the CEO of SEMCORP Hungary Kft., the Hungarian branch of the global leader in the production of lithium-ion battery separator films is seeking long-term cooperation opportunities with the University of Debrecen. Mr. Tao made this announcement before signing an agreement on joint research, development and education with the leaders of our institution.

Upon signing the agreement, the signatories underlined that the cooperation between the University of Debrecen and the company that is a world leader in the production of separator films for electric car batteries is regarded as a top-priority issue by both parties.

“I am convinced that the significance of this agreement is considerably wider than we previously thought. The Green Belt and Road initiative by China has been established quite recently, and the CPR now has a larger capacity for green energy production and storage than the ten countries that follow it combined,” said Rector Zoltán Szilvássy.

The rector pointed out that, at the University of Debrecen, it is exactly the specific field of science in line with the objectives of the partnership that is developing currently in the most dynamic fashion.

“At present, there is an internationally significant cooperation network being formed within the Eurasian continent, so we are, in fact, member states of the same continent, which I do believe will help a great deal in proposing and achieving shared and common goals,” added Zoltán Szilvássy.

On behalf of SEMCORP Hungary Ltd., CEO Hu Tao identified three areas among the main objectives of the cooperation, including knowledge transfer, technology development and career paths for graduates.

“We are aiming to establish a long-term cooperation project with the University of Debrecen by all means. SEMCORP is committed to becoming a world-class materials innovation and manufacturing enterprise, and we are also aware of the fact that the programs offered in technical and technological disciplines at your university are highly developed,” said Hu Tao.

Vice-President of SEMCORP Hungary Kft. Csaba Wolf added that the SEMCORP corporate group routinely places a strong emphasis on research and development, a field in which it sees significant opportunities for cooperation with the University of Debrecen.
“SEMCORP Hungary Kft., as the first European factory of our group, is also very confident that well-trained Hungarian engineers will be able to manage the local factory in the future and further strengthen the company's status as a global market leader. As regards our excellent Chinese engineers, they will be able to share their experience with the students and lecturers of the university, which will be definitely beneficial for the latter as well,” said the Vice-President.
The cooperation agreement was signed by CEO Hu Tao, Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Chancellor Zoltán Bács.
