The University of Debrecen has a broad range of relations with China, working together with strategically important Chinese partners, universities and corporate entities.
“Our Confucius Institute, which was inaugurated just four years ago, is one of the strongholds of Chinese culture, language, history and philosophy, and now we are expanding the scope of this Institute's activities in order to support scientific, innovative and industrial development projects. Furthermore, we are also planning to offer chances to study Chinese traditional medicine and its medicinal products in greater detail,” said Zoltán Szilvássy at the meeting with the delegation from the Chinese Embassy.
“I am positive that the University of Debrecen can easily contribute in a number of ways to the integration and successful operation of Chinese companies settling in this region by providing highly qualified labor force or even health care. The complexity of this institution, its history and its open-mindedness are truly commendable, as is the outstanding number of its international students. In Hungary, the University of Debrecen has the largest enrolment figure of Chinese students, which is more than four hundred," said Ambassador Gong Tao.
The two sides conducted discussions on opportunities for expanding bilateral academic and industrial relations, launching additional student exchange programs and strategic research and development projects. The Ambassador said that he saw a number of untapped opportunities in the fields of agricultural sciences, engineering and the production of pharmaceuticals.
After the official meeting with the Rector, the Ambassador and his colleagues also met Chinese students who go to the University of Debrecen, as well as the management and students of our Confucius Institute, who had prepared a top-notch cultural presentation package to entertain the delegation.
