- Be proud to have acquired your knowledge and received your degress at one of the biggest and most prestigious Hungarian universities and medical faculties, which compares to the best in Europe. The University of Debrecen has always been characterised by stability and constant development. It has always had an open mind for new ideas, while maintaining the traditional values of its medical education. Now we are ready to develop further amid changing circumstances - pointed out the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in his ceremonial speech.
László Mátyus emphasized that the new graduates possessed up-to-date knowledge that would enable them to meet the high expectations in their professional lives.
- During the COVID pandemic, they proved as volunteers that they deserve to become medical doctors not only because of their professional preparedness, but for their attitude as helpers as well. However, even in these moments of celebration I have to remind you that meeting the expectations is not easy, and requires continuous learning and self-improvement - said the dean of the faculty.
Last weekend, after taking the oath, more than 200 Hungarian and foreign newly graduated medical doctors received their degrees at the ceremonial council meetings of the Faculty of Medicine held at the Corte d’onore of the university.
At the events held on 18 and 19 September the Excellent Teacher of the Faculty awards were presented to recognise the efforts and performance of the winners in theoretical and practical education and in the organisation of teaching. This year the awards went to Péter Szücs, associate professor of the Institute of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Tünde Csépány, associate professor of the Department of Neurology, and Gergely György Nagy, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Central Hospital.
Students of the faculty who completed the Hungarian- or the English-course elected the best teacher per class, who were awarded the Teacher of the Year prize. Pro Facultate Iuventutis awards were presented to four newly graduated doctors for their outstanding academic and community performance.
