In compiling the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) by subject 2024, the same performance indicators were used as in the editing of the THE global rankings, but the indicators - research quality, industrial embeddedness, international outlook, research environment and teaching weighting - were recalibrated to take into account the specificities of the subject areas.
This year, the University of Debrecen has again been included in the Times Higher Education thematic ranking in the natural sciences and is already ranked as the best institution in Hungary. It was ranked in the 501-600 category in the international ranking. This year, more than 1,300 universities worldwide were ranked in this area, with the California Institute of Technology in the United States in first place, followed by Harvard University and Stanford University. Among the Hungarian institutions, UD is followed by Eötvös Lóránd University, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Óbuda University, the University of Szeged, the University of Miskolc and the University of Pécs.
The institution has also made great strides in the field of IT, moving up from the 801+ category to the 601-800 position. In social sciences, UD has maintained its position in the 501-600 category, making it the best Hungarian institution this year.
The University of Debrecen ranked 501-600 in the medical and health sciences, 601-800 in life sciences and 1001+ in engineering.
In the most recent Times Higher Education global ranking, the University of Debrecen has been ranked among the top 800 higher education institutions out of 28,000 universities worldwide. The result places the institution in the top 3% of higher education institutions worldwide.
