The Department of Italian Studies of UD has established relationships with several Italian universities in recent decades, mainly in the framework of the Erasmus programme. Now students of the University of Debrecen can join educational programmes at 15 Italian universities.
- In terms of our relationship with Italian institutions, the agreement with the Università degli Studi di Firenze signed in 2019 in relation to bachelor programmes and in 2020 in relation to master programmes, as well as the agreement that also covers scientific work, initiated by Professor Töttössy Beatrice, have been a huge step ahead. The latter programme allows our students to spend two semesters in Italy, and the students of the University of Florence can spend two semesters in Debrecen – explained László Pete to hirek.unideb.hu.
The head of the Department of Italian Studies pointed out that it is a major opportunity that students can learn the language in Italy, they can get an insight into Italian culture, and, can get a degree from both universities. The number of students allowed to start their studies at the bachelor and the master courses is 12 and 8, respectively, every year.
- Now we have four students involved in the programme, but owing to the recent application process, two of our students attending a master programme can start their 10-month studies in Italy. Also, in this academic year, we will receive Italian students – added the head of department.
László Pete highlighted that successful applicants can count on the support of Toscany, which means free of charge accommodation in the dormitory, meals in the canteen, public transportation, and twice a year, depending on the fanily income, EUR 400–1000 scholarship. They can also expect a 10-month Erasmus-scholarship, and the support of the Tempus Foundation.
The students of UD involved in the dual degree programme do not have to pay tuition fee in Florence. Their studies will be financed by the Italian Government.
In order to obtain the degrees of both universities, a UD student has to collect at least 60 credit points at the University of Florence, and defend their theses at both universities.
