Unity of care, education and research for cardiology patient care | University of Debrecen

- An important objective of ours is to ensure, in line with the university's role, the close unity and uninterrupted development of the triad of patient care, education and research. The refurbishment of the new departmental research laboratory, which operates in close symbiosis with the clinic, is an excellent example of this," emphasised Professor Zoltán Szabó, President of the Clinical Centre.

The new research and teaching facilities of the Department of Clinical Physiology are located in the Clinic of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. The modernisation, which will raise the quality of patient care and promote the scientific development and teaching activities of clinical professionals, was carried out with the support of the Clinical Centre.

- Without the presence of qualified professionals with a scientific approach and teaching experience, the healing activities of the Clinical Centre would be unimaginable. We believe that the renewed research laboratory and teaching facilities will contribute greatly to the future scientific achievements and teaching development of our colleagues involved in patient care. This process will continue with unbroken dynamism, in the same way as started by our great predecessors, contributing to the further strengthening of the reputation and achievements of the University of Debrecen," said Professor Zoltán Szabó.

The President of the Clinical Centre added that the system was established at the Clinic of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery under the leadership of Professor István Édes, which, with the support of the current Clinical Director, Professor Zoltán Csanádi, continues to ensure close cooperation between patient care, research and education, greatly supporting the scientific and professional career of their specialists.

- The Clinic of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery has a strong tradition of effective collaboration between education, research and clinical patient care, which is exemplary for all other departments. It is also due to this joint work and joint thinking that as early as during my time as Director of the Clinic, between 1994 and 2017, an average of two PhD students graduated from the Clinic each year," added Professor István Édes, former Director of the Clinic.

The current development is expected to allow the high-quality scientific and teaching work to continue under optimal conditions.

- While clinical patient care has improved significantly as a result of recent developments, nationally and internationally recognized high quality research and teaching work still has its rightful place in the institution, Professor Zoltán Csanádi, Director of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery emphasized. 

Zoltán Papp, Head of the Department of Clinical Physiology at the Faculty of General Medicine, UD, added: their scientific research is always related to modern cardiological care, whether it is drug development or some biomarker research.

- In addition to treating patients, the clinic will also develop the research that goes on around them, which can feed back into the development of modern cardiology care at an international level. I think this is an important mission for any university centre. Naturally, we are also trying to participate in PhD training," said Zoltán Papp, Head of the Department of Clinical Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine, UD (DE ÁOK).
