The cooperation between the University of Debrecen and Teva has a long tradition: The External Department of Pharmaceutics and the External Department of Industrial Pharmaceutics were established 15 years ago and in 2011, respectively. In the past years thousands of students have completed their mandatory practical training at the company, and many participated in on-site courses or wrote their theses with supervisors from the company. Today, Teva employs a number of professionals who graduated from UD.
- Teva has always been a committed supporter of education, because the key to its success is expertise, that is, it needs highly trained professionals. We facilitate the professional development of young talents who spend some time with us through our cooperation with UD, and who will hopefully work for us in the future – emphasized Gary Baker, general manager at Teva Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.
- The operation of the two external departments is beneficial to both parties – added Judit Váradi, HR director of the company. She emphasized that UD students could acquire practical knowledge in an industrial environment and learn from seasoned professionals, so that they would enter the job market with a ready-to-use skillset. So far, Teva has spent over HUF 80 million on the operation of the external departments. Now we raised this amount with HUF 1.5 million in donation, which will be used by UD for infrastructural and equipment development.
Teva will also support the BSc programme in biotechnology, which is soon to be launched at the Faculty of Science and Technology and the launch of the planned higher vocational training of biotechnologist assistants.
- Teva employees have also been involved in the development of the training programme. The faculty is seeking to improve its programmes continuously with the involvement of its partners in the industry. We are willing to equip our students with marketable knowledge and a competitive qualification, in line with the demands of employers of the future. To this end, we have established close relationships with large companies operating in the region. Teva Pharmaceutical Works plays an important part in this contact network – explained Ferenc Kun, dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
According to plan, several students participating in the programme will complete their next practical training in the field of active ingredients manufacturing. Teva would also be happy to see some of the students among its employees after graduation.
Professor István Pócsi, head of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Microbiology of UD highlighted that in addition to the launch of the new degree programmes, Teva has also greatly supported the infrastructural development of university laboratories, joint research projects, PhD topics, and the organisation of professional roundtable talks.
