URAP, a ranking to characterise higher education institutions, was established by the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara in 2009-ben. The university examined 4000 institutions of higher education, 2500 of which made it to the world list.The order was deteremined by academic articles and citations thereof, academic performance (conferences, presentations, discussions) and the number of publications written in collaboration with foreign universities.
The ranking order for 2017/2018 contunues to be dominated by Harvard University, while five Hngarian universities made it to the top 700. The University of Debrecen now ranks 658th on this list, with third place among Hungarian institutions. Among European institutions of higher education Oxford University, Great Britain, and Pierre & Marie Curie University, France, rank among the most prestigious ones.
