Ambassador’s visit to the university

On Wednesday, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Hungary visited the University of Debrecen to learn about the University's expanding international industrial and higher education partner network, its research and development projects, talent education and cultural activities. Gong Tao also visited two research laboratories of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

This was the second visit to the University of Debrecen by Gong Tao as China's Ambassador to Hungary. The diplomat praised the achievements that have taken place since the first meeting on November 2023.

- We extend our thanks to the university for the education of around 300 Chinese students and the Confucius Institute for its outstanding cultural and academic activities. Congratulations also on the award for the most beautiful university last year, the illuminated Main Building is wonderful! Your university is also playing an increasingly important role in bilateral cooperation, which gained enormous impetus," the Ambassador said.
During the meeting with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy, Director of Coordination and Strategy Okszána Kiszil, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Ferenc Kun and the heads of the Confucius Institute, they reviewed in detail the research cooperation with Chinese universities, such as Tsinghua University and Wuhan University, and the education and research processes with Chinese industrial partners.

- We have achieved an outstanding result - as the only university in Central Europe - by becoming a full member of the University Network For Research Collaboration, the One Belt, One Road initiative. This is a milestone in terms of our network and cultural diversity," said Rector Zoltán Szilvássy.
Gong Tao pledged the support of the Embassy and the members of the delegation to the university for further talent education, research and academic activities, as well as to the Confucius Institute for the promotion of Chinese language and culture.

Following the meeting, the delegation of diplomats and industry partners concluded their visit to the University of Debrecen by visiting two research laboratories of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
