Due to the HUF two billion development, two Versa HD-RS devices, the most advanced devices of Elekta's linear accelerator family, have arrived at the Oncology Radiology Clinic of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center, and purchasing a Siemens CT used for dedicated radiation planning has also become possible. In addition, one of the world's most advanced radiation planning systems (Raysearch) has been purchased.
Oncoradiological patient care at the University of Debrecen has reached an important milestone in a multi-year development concept, said György Kossa at the ceremonial inauguration of the equipment on Friday. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Gróf Tisza István Debrecen University Foundation added: as a result of comprehensive development efforts that have taken place since 2017, a modern patient-centered care facility has emerged at the Oncology Radiology Clinic, which is outstanding even by European standards.
- The main task of the board of trustees of the foundation is to promote the implementation of such developments, to create the conditions for the joint strengthening of the triple unity of education, research and care, so that the latest scientific results, innovations and the domestically and internationally renowned specialists, researchers and educators can provide the best possible performance in the most modern conditions possible - said György Kossa.
Zoltán Szabó, president of the Clinical Center, recalled in his speech that in 2021, the 3,400-square-meter new building of the Oncoradiology Clinic, equipped with a modern equipment park, was inaugurated, implementing centralized oncology and oncoradiology care at the university, and from now on, the three new pieces of equipment and the world's most advanced radiation planning software support the work of doctors and the recovery of patients.
- As a result of the dynamic development that has taken place in recent years, the oncoradiological activity of the University of Debrecen has taken on the character of a center serving not only domestic but also cross-border patient care interests, rightly contributing to the enhancement of the good reputation of the Clinical Center - stressed Professor Zoltán Szabó.
Péter Takács, secretary of state for health, called the investment in Debrecen exemplary, which serves as a model for the development of similar domestic centers.
- A world-class unit has been created at the Oncoradiology Clinic of the University of Debrecen which can rightly be expected to become a European regional center. The impact of the center extends across the borders both in terms of treatment, education and innovation, a goal to be supported by the government as well. The existing knowledge base and state-of-the-art technology available at the University of Debrecen are suitable for the development of artificial intelligence, which represents the future. The government relies on universities as a strategic partner in this, explained the secretary of state.
Lajos Kollár, chief adviser to the Prime Minister's Commissioner said that the government accepted the national public health programs in 2020, among which the oncology program was of particular importance. As a result of this program, significant progress has been made in this area in the recent period.
Dag Hartelius, Sweden's ambassador to Hungary, emphasized that the University of Debrecen has always been famous for its innovation and research and development activities. He stressed that he is confident that the current investment will further enhance the reputation of the university, which is an excellent new example of the developed and close cooperation between Sweden and Hungary, and which is extremely important from the point of view of science and the health of the Hungarian people.
The introduction of new systems enables the routine widespread use of high-level technologies and treatment procedures, complemented by new, previously unused procedures. As a regional center, the Oncoradiology Clinic is responsible for the radiosurgery care of two and a half million people. Approximately two thousand new patients are treated with radiation at the clinic yearly.
