According to Times Higher Education’s most recent ranking by subject, the UD places among the best Hungarian institutions of higher education. Along with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the UD places in the 601-800 category on the Engineering & Technology list.

The prestigious provider of university rankings, the British Times Higher Education (THE) published their global rankings in September, where the University of Debrecen achieved the third best place among Hungarian universities. After the global rankings, THE publish their rankings by subject in October and November. These lists are based on the same thirteen detailed performance indicators there were used in the creation of the global ranking, while the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields. The performances indicators are divided into five areas: teaching 30% (learning environment); research 30% (quantity, income, and reputation); 27.5% publications (research impact); international outlook 7.5% (faculty, students, and researchers) and industry income 5% (knowledge implementation).

The 2020 THE World University Rankings by subject: Engineering & Technology list has scrutinized a wide range of technological fields from civil and mechanical engineering to electrical and chemical engineering. The University of Debrecen has kept its place from the previous year in the 601-800 category, achieving the highest score in the category of international outlook. Besides the University of Debrecen, only the Budapest University of Technology and Economics has placed in the ranking, also in the 601-800 category.

“In the past years, the University of Debrecen have invested a great deal of work into making our technological degrees competitive on the national level and to suit the expectations of industrial companies arriving in the region, who are using the latest technologies. The fruits of our labours are evident from the recently published rankings,” says Ákos Pintér, general vice rector.

At the top of the rankings are the California Institute of Technology and Stanford University, both in the United States, and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
