Interreg Cooperation Day at the Faculty of Science and Technology

It was groups of students and young researchers, representing the professionals and decision-makers of the future, who took center stage at an international event organized by the Interreg VI-A Romania-Hungary Programme and hosted by the Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen on September 30. This recent event aimed to showcase successful Interreg ROHU projects implemented or completed in the Romanian-Hungarian border region and to encourage young people to recognize and identify regional challenges and to formulate new ideas for appropriate developments.

There was a full house at the event, where participants learned about the details of the Interreg ROHU programme and the achievements of cross-border cooperation, following which they developed their own project ideas in four thematic areas: education, opportunities and jobs; health and quality of life; innovation and digitalization; and mobility and connectivity.

Subsequently, the individual groups gave a presentation of their ideas to a symbolic adjudication panel composed of their fellow participants. The panel assisted and supported the work process by asking questions and providing feedback, then selected the most promising ideas by taking a vote. Thus, the program demonstrated in a playful format how an initial concept can evolve into a development project by way of collaborative thinking and cooperation.

The event was also attended by representatives of the institutional bodies of Interreg VI-A Romania-Hungary Programme, including the Managing Authority (MA), the National Authority (NA), the Joint Secretariat (JS) and the Information Points (Info Points), who used their professional expertise to support the young participants. One of the key messages arrived at was that cross-border cooperation is not just limited to the joint efforts of institutions and organizations. In fact, the ideas, connections and initiatives of young people can also shape the future of the cross-border region. The joint collaborative work also provided an opportunity for participants to build networks, recognize and identify areas of this region that are in need of development, and apply their own ideas in order to find solutions to shared challenges.

Drawing significant interest, which resulted in a lively atmosphere, the event concluded with a joint assessment, the announcement of the results and the presentation of certificates of participation. Therefore, Interreg Cooperation Day not only introduced the outcomes of implemented and completed projects but also provided a platform for young people who can now go on to launch new initiatives and shape our region's development in the future.
