The stadium show of our university has reached a minor milestone: it is now being organized for the tenth time in Nagyerdei Stadium.
- The most special school year opening show in the whole of Europe is held in Debrecen. Wherever our students may come from and however different we may all be, at yoUDay, everyone can feel and experience that the university brings us together- said Zoltán Bács, the rector of the University of Debrecen, emphasizing the significance of the event.
The list of the most popular Hungarian singers performing at this year's stadium show on September 16 includes Charlie, Beton.Hofi, BSW and Parno Graszt as well as Bogi Nagy on the huge stage of the Nagyerdei arena.
According to President of the Student Self-Government of the University of Debrecen (DE HÖK) Kevin Németh, tickets are selling out at a good pace, and the event, which is also being promoted currently in the freshman camps, could be even more successful than in previous years.
- Students will be participating in the event not only as visitors and performers, but more than a hundred of them are also taking on organizational tasks. It is a good thing to see that the university can also rely on its own community. The Student Self-Government will make sure that shuttle services from every campus are introduced so that everyone interested can get to yoUDay- said the president of DE HÖK.
This year's event is going to be a display of the diversity of the university community. There will be students from more than a hundred different countries taking to the stage at the stadium show. In addition to Hungarian and English songs, Spanish, German and French hits will also be performed. What is more, well-known and popular songs will be presented even in Hungarian by students from the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
Veronika Végh, the director of the stage show, noted that about a quarter of the university's current students are international students, coming from as many as 140 different countries.
- We would also like them to feel at home while at the University of Debrecen. These young people not only pick a university for themselves to go to, but they also make friends here, and sometimes they even find love in our city. Two years ago, there was a proposal taking place at yoUDay, while last year, the young couple, a student from Dubai and his Jordanian partner who he had met at the university, sang together on stage. This year, they eventually got married. This is why we are also preparing for the upcoming event with love locks- said the director.
She also highlighted that, before the main program there would a UD show, in which members of the university's art and cultural units tend to perform in ever-increasing numbers. This time, the stage will be taken by DEAC cheerleaders, members of the oDEon Theatre company, choirs, classical and pop music bands, and the list goes on.
At the press conference held on Wednesday, even the international star of the stadium show was introduced. Nigerian medical student Udeme Ebong will be part of the show as both an organizer and a performer.
- I am rather thankful and excited at the same time to be able to participate with my friends in the joint program of Hungarian and international students. I am certain that we will have a great and very successful evening, and I am also curious to see the audience's reaction to the show- said the medical student.
Year after year, yoUDay’s organizers put a lot of effort into offering new elements into the production, trying to surpass what they did the previous year in terms of visuals and show elements. This year is no different either.
- The symbol of yoUDay’s “decennalia” is the letter/number X, which will appear in the shape of the stage as well as in the technical and visual elements and the special effects. We are preparing for the 10-year jubilee show with a stage larger than ever before and with a colossal and memorable conclusion, which will be complemented by an impressive pyrotechnic display- said the chief organizer, Gergő Török.

The easiest way to get there is from the website youday.hu. University students and employees can purchase three additional tickets at a discount price on top of their own for 2790 forints each, whereas citizens not affiliated with the university can get tickets for 5990 forints.
