The University of Debrecen is among the best 500 universities in the new QS World Rankings in the subject area of sciences. UD has maintained its leading position among Hungarian universities in the field of agricultural sciences (201-250.), and is still in the 351-400 range in the medical sciences ranking of the prestigious London-based organization.

In order to compile the QS World University Rankings by Subject, QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ranked 1,543 higher education institutions across 51 subjects in 5 subject areas.

The University of Debrecen maintained its position in the 401-450 range of the life sciences and medical sciences rankings, and is ranked in the 451-500 range for natural sciences. According to the 2022 rankings, UD continues to be the best Hungarian university in the area of agricultural sciences (201-250.), maintained its position in the 351-400 range for medical sciences, and tops the list of Hungarian universities with its position in the 401-450 range in the subject area of biology. UD has improved 100 places and is in the 451- 500 range now in the fields of physics and astronomy, while the math programmers of the university, which have made it to the QS rankings for the first time, finished in the 501-520 range.

Universities are scored according to academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact (number of citations per year), and a bibliographic indicator, H-index. UD achieved the highest score, 81.1 points, in the area of medical sciences for research impact (number of citations).

The list of the best universities in the area by life sciences and medical sciences is topped by Harvard University (US), followed by the University of Oxford (UK) and Johns Hopkins University (US). Of the Hungarian universities, Semmelweis University and the University of Szeged also appear in the QS rankings, in addition to UD.
