Expected Expansion of Chinese Contacts

A six-member delegation from Huzhou University of China visited the University of Debrecen on 4 November to find out more about the possible links that could be forged between the two institutions.

The Chinese university, founded in 1958, has 18 thousand students and currently operates with 11 faculties – including arts and humanities, law, engineering, economics, agricultural sciences and medicine – showing many similarities with the University of Debrecen.

The guests were welcomed by László Csernoch, vice rector for scientific affairs, who gave a brief introduction about the education and training activities, the research portfolio, as well as the network of international relationships of the university, highlighting in particular the English-language programmes continuing with the participation of a large number of international students.

“The proportion of international students at our university if high, around 14 percent: currently we have approximately 4000 students from more than 100 countries, including 187 students from China,” Csernoch said.

The University of Debrecen also maintains a separate – one-person – office in China to recruit students, and the current attempts at establishing further links is also due to the efforts of this office.

After the discussions, the guests toured the Main Building and other parts of the campus on Egyetem (University) Square, and briefly visited the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Economics, and Engineering as well.
