The Chinese students who are enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen have received their Hungarian diplomas, as first in the history of our institution and faculty to earn a Master's degree (MA). Quite a few of these graduates plan to make use of their knowledge and skills in the future in Hungary.

Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Norway to Hungary, visited the University of Debrecen on Friday to learn more about our institution’s program and research structure, its international relations and its extensive network of industrial partners. Trine Skymoen would wish to promote an increase in the number of Norwegian students enrolled at UD.

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Debrecen and Sunway University in Malaysia are to expand their bilateral cooperation through a new joint research and academic programme. Faculty members from the two institutions are currently processing material on the trip to Borneo by János Xántus in 1870, documenting the experiences of the famous Hungarian traveller and naturalist in two volumes both in English and Hungarian.

The University of Debrecen has signed a cooperation agreement on research and education with the institution of higher education called Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, India. Owing to this partnership agreement, joint training and student exchanges will be possible in the future in the fields of engineering, information technology and natural sciences.

The University of Debrecen and Indiana State University in the United States discussed the development of academic and mobility partnerships between the two institutions. During his visit on Monday, Diego Morales met with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and students at the University's Faculty of Agriculture.

The University of Bonn, one of Germany's top five higher education institutions, plans to collaborate with the University of Debrecen in research in several disciplines. The two universities are expanding the cooperation started in the NeurotechEU programme, which aims to promote the development of neurosciences and coordinate research; university leaders discussed the expansion of the relationship during a two-day visit to Debrecen.

Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University will initiate mobility of teachers, researchers and students, as well as joint training and research projects with the University of Debrecen, according to an agreement signed on Thursday by the rectors of the two institutions. Cigdem Turkyilmaz also visited the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Economics.

At the invitation of the Institute of English and American Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Ragnar Almqvist visited the University of Debrecen and gave a lecture entitled Global Islands: Ireland, Hungary and the European Union. This was the first time the Ambassador of Ireland to Hungary has visited the institution.

Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU) has confirmed and renewed its educational and cultural cooperation ties with the University of Debrecen in an agreement that was signed in Debrecen on Thursday. President Chen Fachun, the leader of a visiting Chinese delegation, also handed over the document of the accreditation of our Confucius Institute for another five years to the leaders of UD.

The Ambassador of Australia visited the University of Debrecen on Monday to learn about the history, education, industrial cooperation and international relations of the University of Debrecen. Ian D.G. Biggs also met students from the Institute of English and American Studies.

Representatives of the University of Debrecen and Mansoura University (Egypt) have signed an agreement in the field of agricultural education programs. The agreement was signed recently in Cairo in the presence of Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and János Csák, Hungarian Minister of Culture and Innovation.

Leading members of CARPE (Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education) met in Brussels over the weekend. Representing the University of Debrecen, Deputy Rector for Research and Education László Csernoch and Scientific Director Zsolt Varga attended the meeting.

The opening event of CASA 15, an international design competition for students of architecture, was held this year at the Faculty of Technology of the University of Debrecen. The participants, around two hundred second-year students of architecture from three different countries, were instructed to design a residential building with community functions located on a specific site in Debrecen. The host institution, the Department of Architecture of the University of Debrecen, was represented by as many as sixty students partaking in the competition.

A delegation from the Embassy and Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Vienna has visited the University of Debrecen and discussed the possibilities of increasing the number of Bangladeshi students. The diplomats also visited the university’s Faculty of Engineering.

The ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Hungary encouraged scientific and training cooperation between the University of Debrecen and higher education institutions of Cuba. Ambassador Guillermo Vázquez Moreno visited the university’s industrial park in Vezér Street as well.

The Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Hungary visited the University of Debrecen on Tuesday to discuss the University's training portfolio and its extensive domestic and international network of contacts. Malallah Albalushi also inquired about the possibility of increasing the number of Omani students during his meeting with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy.

The University of Debrecen has made a cooperation agreement with six Vietnamese universities in the fields of information technology, pharmacy, and medicine. The framework agreements were signed by Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of Debrecen University, in the presence of Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Minister of Defence, on Friday, at the National University of Public Service.

A delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Hungary met with Elek Bartha, Vice Rector for Education, on Friday to discuss opportunities for academic and mobility cooperation between the University of Debrecen and Iraqi higher education institutions. The delegation also met with Iraqi students studying at the University of Debrecen.

An internationally renowned professor is visiting the University of Debrecen. Florian Luca, Professor at the School of Maths, Wits University, Johannesburg, will spend three months as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Mathematics in autumn 2004.

Rudolf Schuster, former President of the Slovak Republic, celebrates his 90th birthday on 4 January. The politician, who played a key role in deepening Slovak-Hungarian relations, was awarded the Civis Honoris Causa award, one of the most prestigious honours of the University of Debrecen in 2016.

The team of the Tóth Árpád High School from Debrecen has won the DEbate English-language national debate competition, which was organized again this year by the University of Debrecen's Institute of English and American Studies in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States of America and the American Corner.
